Shrimp FAQs
What is the price of a kilo of shrimp today?
Shrimp prices change, so the current price of each type and size is shown on its own product page and updated there. Packs range from 250 g to about 1 kg, with most raw shrimp in 400 g packs, so check the weight when you compare. Start with our peeled and deveined shrimp.
What is the difference between Qazaz shrimp and red (Rosso) shrimp?
Qazaz is a local shrimp sold head-on and shell-on, with a sweet taste that suits grilling, baking, rice and pasta. Rosso is a large red shrimp (size grade 10/20) known for its sweet flavour and firm texture, and our 500 g pack comes frozen: see Caviale Rosso Shrimp 500gm.
What do medium, large and jumbo shrimp mean, and which size is best for grilling or for rice and pasta?
Our sizes run from small, medium, large and extra large up to jumbo, super jumbo, grand super jumbo and colossal. The number next to a size (for example 13-15 or 8-12) is a piece count, so the lower the number, the bigger each shrimp. Small and medium suit rice, pasta and soups, while large and jumbo are best for the grill; compare sizes in peeled and deveined shrimp.
Do I fry breaded butterfly shrimp straight from the freezer or thaw it first?
Cook it straight from frozen; do not thaw it first. Deep-fry at 180ยฐC for 3โ4 minutes, or air-fry at 200ยฐC for 8โ10 minutes. The full range of butterfly, torpedo, kunafa and breaded shrimp is in ready to fry shrimp.
Is peeled shrimp already deveined, and what do I need to do before cooking it?
Yes. Shrimp labelled “peeled and deveined” comes peeled with the vein removed, and some sizes are also available tail-on. Thaw it overnight in the fridge, then cook it fast and hot for 2โ3 minutes a side until it turns opaque and curls into a loose C. See peeled and deveined shrimp.
What is ready-to-eat shrimp?
It is shrimp that has already been cooked and can be served straight from the pack, with no peeling or cooking, which makes it handy for salads and starters. Keep it refrigerated, use it by the date on the pack and, once opened, within two days as the product instructions say. Browse ready to eat shrimp.
